Hello and Welcome to Hummingbirds’ Class
Hummingbirds is the Year 5/6 class here at The Bawburgh School with Mrs Maudlin and Mrs Taverner as the class teachers. They are supported by Teaching Assistant Miss Lofts, who provides classroom and individual intervention support throughout the week.
In Hummingbirds we follow the Upper Key Stage 2 National Curriculum, focusing on the core subjects of Maths, English and Science, and the various foundation subjects. We pride ourselves, on our curriculum which is enriched with a range of learning opportunities which are personalised to meet the needs of all our pupils. Our approach to learning embraces a positive growth mindset, where children are nurtured and supported to embrace new learning and overcome challenge. We want our children to develop the confidence to take risks and learn from their mistakes. Our school ethos is built around our six core values: Resilience, Curiosity, Reflection, Collaboration, Resourcefulness and Reflection and children are given daily opportunities to master these key skills and thrive in all that they do.
We also value the importance of learning outside of the classroom as we want our children to be curious about the world around them. Children are all given the option to take part in a yearly residential which is always a huge amount of fun, and also many other trips linked to their learning in school, such as The National History Museum or spending the day as a WW2 evacuee.
Throughout the year, parents are updated on their children’s experiences and achievements in school via ClassDojo. This is also our preferred platform to update parents on all our activities up and coming for Hummingbirds. Parents are encouraged to engage and interact with ClassDojo, as it enables the children to recognise the importance of a strong partnership between school and home.
We welcome you all to another exciting year in the Hummingbirds class!
Best Wishes
Mrs Maudlin, Miss Taverner and Miss Lofts
