Geography

Geography is taught using the CUSP curriculum. This is structured by using substantive concepts to teach subject knowledge and vocabulary, along with the disciplinary knowledge that is needed in order to think like a geographer.

Our geography curriculum is shown below and details the learning that will take place each year together with the disciplinary knowledge that is revisited regularly.

Our geography learning is underpinned by our curriculum drivers, which are as follows:

Curriculum Drivers

Global Citizens – Our Geography curriculum will provide children with a coherent knowledge and understanding of how the world is interlinked. They will develop a deeper respect for the world around them and will understand that they are part of a global community.

Respectful Communicators – The children will be learning about the geography of the world and the features that make countries unique. The children will be able to compare different countries to the UK and look for similarities and differences which will enable them to respect the uniqueness of a variety of cultures.

Active Learners – Our Geography curriculum will inspire curiosity through the exploration of different areas of the world. The children will be exposed to enquiry questions that they will take responsibility for answering and discussing. Geography lessons are structured to give children lots of opportunities to participate in discussions and to communicate their thoughts with others.

Aspirational Learning – Through learning about different areas of the world, children will be exposed to cultures beyond their own and opportunities that this may bring. They will understand that there is a world beyond their own town or village that can offer different experiences and that they can aspire to explore the world around them.
