At The Barford and Bawburgh Federation we offer a broad and engaging art and DT curriculum with plenty of opportunity to be creative.
DT Curriculum Drivers
Global Citizens – We offer a Design and Technology curriculum which is inspiring and practical. We want children to be inspired to create innovative designs which solve real and relevant problems, from a wide variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Children will develop an awareness of social and environmental issues about sustainability of products in the future and become informed consumers. We intend to inspire pupils to develop a love of Design and Technology and see how it has helped to shape the ever-evolving technological community they live in.
Respectful Communicators – When evaluating and analysing existing and their own products, children will be expected to use the language of design and technology. Pupils will be equipped with the skills, vocabulary and confidence needed to compare and contrast their work with their peers and other designers and to work collaboratively and respectfully to solve problems. Our vocabulary rich curriculum will equip children with the confidence to join discussions with others and express themselves creatively.
Active Learners – Children will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and be able to draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. They will develop the confidence to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and resilient citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they will develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider-world.
Aspiration – Children will be inspired by different designers, engineers and makers and shown what is possible through the lens of design and manufacture. We will have discussions around careers in food, textiles and mechanisms and speak with people from industry about the importance and place of design technology have in our modern world. This will equip them with everything they need to move forwards with their creativity and strive to explore more.
