Computing

Computing is taught using Purple Mash from reception to year 6. Purple Mash provides children with an interactive and engaging curriculum. Our computing curriculum is shown below. Our learning in computing  is underpinned by our curriculum drivers, which are follows:

Global Citizens – Our computing curriculum will provide children with coherent knowledge and understanding of how Computing plays a role in all our lives, connects us across cultures and underpins technological development and inventions across the world. In doing so, children will reflect on the impact that electronic communication can have, both positively and negatively on themselves, our community and the wider world.

Respectful Communicators – The computing curriculum employs ambitious and progressive vocabulary that is taught and revisited to aid deeper learning and comprehension. This will enable broader understanding of computing vocabulary and support communication skills. Interweaving with our ‘Global Citizens’ thread, Pupils will learn the importance of respectful communication impacts on all, especially within online communications and the implications this can have for all parties.

Active Learners – Our computing curriculum utilises Purple Mash to provide engaging learning experiences which pupils can use to build on skills and develop their aspirations with computing. Through this approach, pupils are offered the opportunity to work in groups, pairs, as a class and independently which enables them to learn in different ways. The activities offer opportunities to test their resourcefulness, curiosity and resilience. Feedback opportunities given through Purple Mash resources provide the opportunity for children to reflect on their achievements and areas of improvement in the moment.

Aspiration – The computing curriculum brings purpose and understanding behind the children’s developing skills to inspire them to apply their computing skills in their futures. This is supported through authentic activities which are provided through Purple Mash. These activities provide all children with learning opportunities which both challenge and give a sense of achievement.
