Music

Music is taught using the Sing Up curriculum. The Sing Up curriculum provides primary schools with a solid foundation to deliver a creative and engaging music curriculum. It is a scheme of work for children from reception to year 6 which covers a broad and diverse range of repertoire, approaches and musical traditions.

Curriculum Drivers

Global Citizens – Our music curriculum encourages students to explore world music, understand its social and historical contexts, and use music as an expressive tool. By learning to respect and engage with different cultures, students develop empathy, creativity, and a sense of shared humanity. The curriculum includes hands-on activities like collaborations with highly training musicians, performance projects, and exploring diverse musical traditions.

Respectful Communicators – Collaborative activities, such as group compositions or debates about the social and cultural impact of music, will encourage children to communicate their ideas clearly and respectfully. Students will practice articulating their opinions on music-related topics, while refining their listening skills and ability to engage in thoughtful, respectful discussions.

Active Learners – Students are provided with diverse and engaging opportunities to explore various aspects of music. The curriculum encourages students to take risks by experimenting with new instruments, composing original pieces, and participating in performances. It fosters resilience as they learn from mistakes, reflecting on their work through revising and refining compositions or performances. With a strong focus on curiosity and self-improvement, students will develop a life-long passion for music, cultivating skills in creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Aspirational –   Our music curriculum encourages pupils to explore their potential through a variety of musical experiences. By providing opportunities to learn from accomplished musicians, experiencing high quality live performances and participating in live performances, the curriculum motivates students to aim higher and develop a deep passion for music. With a focus on skill development, creativity, and curiosity, the music curriculum nurtures a sense of ambition and self-belief, empowering students to reach their fullest potential.
