PE

Global Citizens – The PE curriculum develops learners who are happy and healthy through communication, collaboration and competition. Skills not only build on personal fitness but develop relationships and leadership skills amongst children that they can extend to the wider community including external events with other schools or extra-curricular activities and hobbies.  This includes residentials where they can experience outdoor and adventurous activities.

Respectful Communicators – Communication  is layered through the PE curriculum as part of the social core thread. This builds from sharing and working sensibly in EYFS through to motivating others and giving or receiving sensitive feedback by year 6. Subject specific vocabulary will be taught throughout and tier 3 vocabulary where applicable and in context to a multi-ability or core skill.

Active Learners – Our PE curriculum focuses on the fundamental movement skills in PE, dance and gym, all learnt through a wide range of games and activities to build and develop resilience. Taught alongside multi-ability skills, this develops the child both physically and emotionally, giving huge scope for inclusion as the aim is not to be the fastest but to be reflective to support progress. Children learn to reflect on their learning and set their own targets, self-assessing and measuring progress as well as developing creative thinking and independence in their learning.
Aspirational Learners – Children are given the opportunity in each lesson to beat their personal bests and to be the best that they can be. They get to compete amongst themselves in class and to compete across the Federation in the Federation games. Every child also represents the school in events held by the School Sports Partnership. Mental and physical well-being underpins the whole child approach of real PE which is why the emphasis is on communication and collaboration as well as competition.
