Curriculum Drivers
Global Citizens – Our Science curriculum will provide children with a coherent understanding of how Science both reflects and shapes British and global history and contributes to the wealth, culture and creativity of our nation. This will be achieved by learning about significant scientists such as Charles Macintosh, Maria Merion, David Attenborough, Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, Alfred Wallace and Charles Darwin and their impact on human knowledge and development. This will occur either directly within the subject or in other topics to include history (Mary Anning Yr1 & Mae Jemison Yr 5 for example), literacy, geography and guided reading.
Respectful Communicators – When learning different topics within science, as well as carrying out experiments, pupils will be expected to use the correct scientific terms for their age group. Science will, utilising the CUSP science scheme, also employ an ambitious and progressive vocabulary which pupils will explore, revisit and reflect on throughout their time at our school.
Active & Aspirational Learners – Our Science curriculum will inspire curiosity through the exploration of the subject through well thought through activities that will reveal the wonder and astonishment of the subject. Through this, pupils will be encouraged to reflect, ask questions and make intelligent conclusions based upon their observations. Utilising CUSP, we will also look to challenge all pupils with deep thinking questions. Pupils will also interact with scientists from the local community (John Innes, Food and Farming Discovery Trust, UEA), to gain insight into real world science with the aim to inspire those inclined to pursue a career in the sciences. We want pupils to leave The Barford & Bawburgh Federation inspired by science and energised to learn more in Secondary education and beyond.
